Yummy yummy yummy, I’ve got heat in my tummy

The not-a-balaclava did not make as much progress as it should have yesterday – due mainly to icy fingers. I managed to get 50 rows of the main part completed, with 20 to go before joining the round and adding the collar.

We resorted to a hot bath and an early duvet in order to keep warm, as the fire did not want to burn. We watched a weird and depressing film on the iplayer (is it just me, or does anybody else find it difficult to accept Ewan McGregor as a romantic lead?) This morning I made big bowls of steaming hot porridge to keep us warm from the inside. Central heating parts have arrived in the post and will be fitted after work tonight, let  us hope that they fix the problem.

More central heating for lunch, in the form of soup. I am thinking about tossing in the unused Rocket from the weekend. Rocket and Pea, on a potato base? Thick green and healthy. To be served with hot buttery potato scones — not so healthy, but essential calories to burn for heat.

Town again on Wednesday, so perhaps no spinning for me again this week. It depends on what I can figure out about feeding the invalid in the house. I don’t want him eating junk two days running.

Actually, it is inaccurate to label him as such – treatment is taking effect and he looks and feels much better than he did. I am delighted to see his smile back. Let us hope that the symptoms can be kept in abeyance.

We shall ignore the diet on Saturday – Mr & Mrs Gill are coming to dine and I’m pushing the boat out a little. Nothing fancy, but all the trimmings… so long as I can find them. Tesco’s produce shelves were very bare indeed last Wednesday. I wish that Kirkwall sported a decent greengrocer’s shop.

My new bread book is on its way. I can’t wait to extend my repertoire! I’ll be trying a lot of slow rise recipes… due entirely to the chilly nature of my kitchen. I might as well make an asset of it, don’t you think?

I need to go and brew some yoghourt – a large part of my App Foods parcel consisted of little pots of fruit purée. The idea is to get some pro-biotics and extra fibre down the throat of the sickly one.

Oh – the Lakeland order finally went off yesterday, so there will be new kitchen experiments soon. Watch this space.

I quite like Ewan McGregor in a romantic lead. Have you seen Down With Love? Very funny, if you can cope with Renee Zellweger as the female lead.

      I don’t think that I have, but I /have/ seen Moulin Rouge.

He doesn’t push my romantic or sexy buttons though… unlike his lovely uncle 🙂
